St Mary’s recognises that for our Year 6 students transition to secondary school is a significant transition. Moving from a primary school setting to a secondary school requires a scaffolded and staged transition.
St Mary’s actively works alongside our predominant feeder schools in welcoming visits from teachers, encouraging families to attend all open evenings in the community and collaborating with secondary school to bridge the learning and experience for our young people.
Depending on the secondary school you choose for your child, will depend on the nature, frequency and level of transition. All schools personalise this introduction to secondary school life.
St Mary’s throughout the entirety of Year 6 strive to nurture learning dispositions that will hold our students in good stead for secondary school. Independent learning, organisation, task management and the inclusion of student voice and choice are ways in which we support transition to secondary school in the primary setting.
